What Is Atamgyan? The Complete Knowledge of the Self
Atamgyan means the true knowledge of the self — understanding who you are, where you came from, why you are trapped in the cycle of birth and death, and how you can attain liberation. It is the deepest spiritual wisdom that every human being must know before it is too late.
Without atamgyan, life remains a journey of confusion, suffering, and repeated rebirths. With atamgyan, life becomes meaningful, purposeful, and directed toward eternal peace.
1. Who Are You? (Tu kaun hai?)
Every person identifies with the body — name, caste, nationality, profession — but all of this is temporary. You are not the body; you are an atma (soul), a conscious entity that is eternal.
The body changes constantly — childhood, youth, old age — but the soul remains unchanged. Understanding this fundamental truth is the first step toward atamgyan.
2. Where Did You Come From? (Tu kahan se aaya hai?)
Before taking this human body, the soul existed elsewhere. According to true spiritual knowledge, souls originate from Satlok, the eternal, divine realm of Supreme God Kabir Sahib.
Due to forgetting the Supreme and getting influenced by Kaal, the soul took birth in the cycle of 84 lakh species. After ages of suffering, it finally received this rare human birth — a golden opportunity to return to its real home.
3. Where Were You Before Birth? (Marne se pehle tu kahan tha?)
Before entering the womb, the soul was wandering in the cycle of births — sometimes as an animal, sometimes as a bird, sometimes as a human, and sometimes even in hellish realms.
This cycle of suffering is the result of past karmas and the binding influence of Kaal. Atamgyan reveals this truth and teaches the way to break these chains.
4. Where Will You Go After Death? (Marne ke baad kahan jayega?)
After death, the body merges with the elements, but the soul continues its journey. Without true devotion to the Supreme God Kabir Sahib, the soul:
- Wanders again into the 84 lakh species,
- Takes birth in lower life forms,
- Or experiences suffering in hellish regions as a result of its karmas.
Only those who gain true knowledge and worship according to the Supreme God’s rules escape this suffering and go to Satlok, where there is eternal bliss.
5. How Did the Disease of Birth and Death Begin? (Janam mrityu ka rog kahan se laga?)
Birth and death are not natural states for the soul. They are diseases caused by:
- Separation from the Supreme God
- Ignorance of true spiritual knowledge
- Worship done without scriptural basis
- The influence of Kaal, who keeps souls trapped in his domain
The soul, originally pure and immortal, becomes bound by karma and maya. Atamgyan explains this root cause and shows the cure.
6. Human Life Is Extremely Rare (Manushya janam badi mushkil se milta hai)
Among 84 lakh life forms, the human body is the only one capable of receiving true spiritual knowledge and practicing devotion that leads to liberation.
Even gods, celestial beings, and other beings desire human birth for this purpose. Therefore, wasting this life in ignorance, pleasures, rituals, or blind faith is the greatest loss.
7. Without Devotion, the Next Life Will Be Miserable
If a person does not take true refuge, does not understand the purpose of life, and does not follow the path shown by the Supreme God:
- They become animals in the next life, losing discrimination and suffering greatly.
- They face hellish punishments, paying for deeds the way a debtor pays interest.
Atamgyan warns the soul of this danger and motivates it to take the safe path toward liberation.
8. What Is True Atamgyan?
True atamgyan gives answers to all fundamental questions:
- Who am I?
- Why am I here?
- Why do I suffer?
- What is the purpose of human life?
- How can I escape birth and death?
- Who is the Supreme God?
- What is the correct method of worship?
According to the eternal knowledge revealed by Supreme God Kabir Sahib and correctly interpreted by a Tatvadarshi Saint, the purpose of human life is to recognize the Supreme God, follow His true path, settle all spiritual debts, and finally attain Satlok.
Conclusion
Atamgyan is not just philosophy — it is the ultimate science of the soul. It awakens a person from ignorance, reveals the true identity of the soul, and guides it back to its eternal home.
A person who receives atamgyan understands:
- This world is temporary
- This body is temporary
- This birth is temporary
- But the soul and its eternal destination are real
Through true knowledge and correct devotion to Supreme God Kabir Sahib, the soul becomes free from the disease of birth and death and attains everlasting peace in Satlok.
